Mattina Fiore’s “Buona Derrata” translates from Italian to English to, “The Good Stuff”. Buona Derrata is a blend of our Murmur Vineyards Grenache, Syrah and Santa Maria Valley Mourvèdre. Although the origins of this blend of varietals is from the Rhone, we live in and produce Syrah and Grenache in one of the most premier locations to do so. Andrea and I have a passion for the cool climate fruit our wine is made with and the style of wines that these grapes produce. Elegant, lush, fruit forward wines with soft tannins that when we taste we always want more of. Developing this blend was truly a labor of love. With a panel of winemakers and grape growers we tasted through and shared some of the finest and highly acclaimed GSM blends from our area. It was our goal to produce a wine that was able to show off the individual qualities of each of the wines varietals, yet richen and to enhance their character though their marriage. With that in mind Robert Henson, Scott and Andrea refined the blend we are proud to call “Buona Derrata”.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
A bold richness and intense deep garnet color of the Syrah suspended by the elegance of the Grenache and married with the backbone of the Mourvèdre. A strong nose with the deep rich concentrated fruit of olallieberry spice and cassis. Despite the feel of firm sweet tannins, there is also a delicateness of raspberries and bright fresh strawberries. Hints of rhubarb and white pepper with touches of dark plum and pork belly round out to the characteristics of fig jam. The essence of rich loamy soil sprouting with Chanterelles ends a silky lingering pomegranate finish. The 2012 Buona Derrata blend will develop and evolve gorgeously over the following 8 to 12 years.
